Three years at Yahoo! completed today. I still remember my first day on August 22nd, 2005, the first sprint task assigned to me on August 23rd, and my first product launch two months later. ;)

The third year brought about a lot of travel, more money, a lot of fun, a lot of change in the office (fewer friends) and an equal amount of nerve-wracking, disappointing situations at work. Nevertheless, it's been a great year. My motivation levels are getting back to normal.

Alright, Teemus 6.0 needs to go back to getting a life...

A Macbook Pro is now my weapon at work. Suffice to say that everything on it Just WorksTM, which makes you more productive.

Apple sells you an experience, not hardware, software and other such geeky things. It's like using the Porsche equivalent of computing. ([info]yathin, accept my apologies in advance.)

Can't wait to buy a Macbook for personal use later this year.

For the second half of last month, I was in Hong Kong (again), and this time around, it was not too much fun, but fun nevertheless.

Badly in need of a vacation, and how.

Off to Hong Kong for a week in an hour or so. BLR-SIN-HKG, on Singapore Airlines, woohoo. Should be fun working there. Hoping to shop for some good clothes.

Current Mood: oh well

Two years completed at Yahoo! today. No day at work has been the same thus far, thankfully.

Registered teemus.info earlier in the morning. It's too cool a nickname [may become a word in the dictionary someday ;)] to not be domain-parked!

07:05 pm :: Just another brain-dead blog post...
Current Mood: biatch

You wake up at 15:00, walk into work at 16:15. Can't work. Try working, but the code doesn't flow. Try playing pool, but the concentration is missing. Today was like that. Can't help but blame it on scrum. Sucks.

Lost a precious adidas cap on Friday. It felt like losing a loved one. Walked into the showroom today, bought the same thing again. Veni, vidi, VISA!

Indiatimes Domains is so fucked up. Since Yahoo! Domains doesn't register .in objects, I chose Indiatimes, since they've been pretty good with their shopping microsite. For starters, the control panel didn't show my domain name. Managed to talk to a human after calling them up about eight times. When my domain did show up on the control panel, the WHOIS information was screwed up. Changing that, and the DNS servers, causes nothing. The human who helped me out the first time around is going to get a piece of my mind tomorrow, I swear.

Got another iPod nano for free, a 1GB thingie though. Need a better digital camera. I'm not the Nikon D70 types, thank you. A Canon Powershot is more like my bitch.

Dear General Motors, please launch the Chevrolet Spark in India on time, circa January 2007. I'll be a good [info]teemus and book one, I promise. Will sell a kidney if need be. Can't stand the car void longer.

IEs4Linux is sweet! Here, take some link love.

So, Google bought YouTube. Smart, indeed. I guess they wanted to learn how PHP is used for a website that gets huge-ass traffic. :P While they are at it, I hope they fix all those XSS security holes in YouTube, before even thinking of integrating their login system with it. Don't do an Orkut! :P

I'm bitching along okay, otherwise. [info]code_martial says that I should get an award for the using the word 'bitch' in the most creative ways...

03:25 pm :: A year of yodelling...
Current Mood: thankful

Today, I complete a year at Yahoo! Bangalore. It's been a smashing year, and I pray that it continues to be that way. Life in Bangalore is definitely much more fun. (Well, I do get bored as hell sometimes on weekends, but I guess that will change.)

Ironically, I'm not in Bangalore this week, but in Hyderabad instead.

A little note of thanks to certain people, both at the workplace, and outside of it. The list of these rockstars is long, and I'm sure they'd know when they read this.

Current Mood: depressed

Tried to understand using a certain tool for more than two weeks now, but couldn't. It's like rocket-science. I had given up. If certain colleagues hadn't helped with a lot of coding, I would be in deep shit.

It sucks to feel this way, when you are simply unable to grasp certain things. This has hit me really hard. Will take some time to recover.

Won't let this go the C++ way, though. Will figure out this demon soon. I don't deserve to be a developer otherwise.

Current Mood: drained

The past week has gone as predicted - it screwed me. Somehow, my motivation levels didn't go down that much. Ten days at home (in Sec'bad) will certainly do good. It's my cousin's marriage, there'll be a lot of donkey-work to do, but I'm looking forward to that. The only thing that would tick me off is shopping for formal stuff. Not going to spend too much money on stuff I won't wear again.

Alright, the cab's here, and I have to fly in 145 minutes from now...

Current Mood: whatever

Pool is fun. Though I've been playing it on and off for the past five years or so, I *suck* at it. Should practice a lot more, so as to get obsessed with it. Once that happens, the improvements should begin, hopefully. It's very important to be passionate about it, else it will become just another way of passing time and getting grumpy after playing badly.

This weekend, I shall shop for my monthly adidas item, mostly another sweatshirt. Will try to work on Saturday/Sunday in order to get certain stuff looking alright. Wishing for nothing else. Let's just get some honour back, for life's completely waste without it...

08:34 pm :: Hack grasshopper, hack!
Current Mood: stressed

Next week is going to be hectic where work's concerned. Will have to code my life off to do anything respectable. Couldn't do as much as I wanted to over this week, mainly because I was totally unproductive, lazy and sluggish yesterday.

Life continues to chug along alright, otherwise. If it weren't for the folks in office, I would have gone back to being my depressed, lonely self again. Thank you so much (in no particular order of appreciation), [info]bluesmoon, Y! Idol [info]hitesh, [info]sabiokap, [info]premshree, [info]code_martial, [info]gopalv2, [info]yathin and Praz.

Nowadays, everytime I hit the update page to blog, words just do not seem to flow. Ticks me off. Maybe I do not have much to write about.

This grasshopper has much to learn, and deliver...

12:37 am :: The story so far...

Life in Bangalore began at around 10:30 on Sunday, August 21st, when I checked into the guest house. Skipped lunch to catch up on sleep, and awoke at 15:30. Went to [info]wiredforlife's house that day to see the Turkish GP, with Kimi dominating the Istanbul track. My first day at Y! began at 09:30 and finished at around 23:00 on Monday, the 22nd of August.

Work is tough, but awesome. Got to improve a lot as I learn, and that applies to playing pool as well. Life revolves around staying in office most of the time, as there's not much to do staying out of it. I've stayed over seven times in the three weeks that I've been here; it's that much fun. The sheer brilliance of the people here is humbling.

Bangalore deserves to get the Most Hyped-up City of the Century Award, honestly. It's just the girls who are better-looking out here. It hurts me no end to see all sorts of weird-looking pulao preparations sold as 'biryani'. What's worse? Eating it, intentionally, more than once. :|

What else? I found a house, a nice 2BHK at Ulsoor, about 2 km from office. My roomie found an affordable laundry nearby, yay! Did I write about how preposterous the rented-house deposit amounts here are? Why the fuck do they demand ten fucking months worth of rent as a deposit? Gaah.

Met plenty of LJers in office, finally surpassing the hundred mark. Many more people to meet, and that's something I'm looking forward to.

Missed the Belgian GP, damn. Need to buy a TV, seriously.

On past weekends, checked out quite a few malls and eateries. Mirch Masala on the 60 feet Road in Koramangala serves some of the best parathas, both in taste and variety. Highly recommended. (Ack, [info]wiredforlife.)

It's taken me ages to write this much. I shall end with a prayer in which I hope to churn out some solid code in the times ahead. Till then, hail Kimi Raikkonen!

Current Mood: excited

Seven years ago, in April 1998, I created my first email ID. In the last week of this month, I shall be a part of the same organization. It's strange how things come to a full circle.

Life awaits at Yahoo! Bangalore, a place which has some of the most brilliant hackers I know. A big thank you to everyone who helped me out with this. Here's praying that I can last a lifetime here...
